Hi, I’m Travis Greenlee.

I have been devoted to my life's purpose as an educator and life learner for as long as I can remember.  Since 2000, my work in education has included a wide range of roles - head of school, lead elementary teacher, middle school humanities teacher, outdoor and experiential educator, PE & wellness teacher, environmental & garden studies teacher, coach, advisor, curriculum coordinator, and After School Program director.  At the heart of it all has been my drive to foster students’ innate sense of wonder and curiosity, and to support them in making authentic connections in order to navigate the ever-changing world around them.

“In an environment where a child can learn by doing, something awakens in them that is produced in the moment. As a teacher, I live for those moments.”

As an educator, I have always jumped at any opportunity to help my students learn experientially. In an environment where a child can learn by doing, something awakens in them that is produced in the moment. As a teacher, I live for those moments. Helping a student learn through experience and in different contexts offers diversity and real life growth to their development.

My most treasured class projects and collaborations are always those that bring a student to a level of engagement that makes learning relevant and genuine for them.  I have discovered that investing myself in building integrated curricula that connect across multiple subject areas creates a rich environment, ideal for a personalized and differentiated learning experience.

Teaching in a variety of contexts has also presented me with a genuine opportunity to work with students where they feel both at home and out of their comfort zone. We pull much of our own inspiration and joy from the natural world around us.  My dual role (and personal passion) as an outdoor educator has been the perfect complement to all of my work as a teacher. Incorporating the “outdoor classroom” has allowed me to organize a variety of experiential and unique learning opportunities, which have helped students to take their knowledge and learning beyond the conventional classroom and expand their learning palette.

Learning by doing is my favorite way to engage students in classroom, be it inside or outside.  In my time working with children, I have also had the pleasure of working with countless parents, family members, private tudors and other caregivers.  If it is one thing that I have learned along the way, it is that, no matter what you do or how hard you try as a parent or caregiver, support and partnership is often welcome and always essential.
